Philosophy at The University of Manchester invites applicants for September 2016 entry into our research-focused MA in Philosophy.
The course aims to equip students with a strong background in analytical philosophy with exemplary research and analytical skills of a standard to equip them to pursue doctoral study, or to pursue careers in areas that require exemplary skills in argumentation, analysis and research. It aims to do this by providing a deeper understanding of a variety of areas of philosophy through very personalised teaching delivery, with small-group `research seminar'-style classes and a focus on the individual development of research skills.
The programme offers a variety of highly specialized `Research Paper' units, taught by members of staff on their own areas of research. In addition, a research skills module, which runs for the full year, provides the grounding required to write a dissertation and provides the opportunity to develop a doctoral research proposal.
Students have two options for the dissertation component. They may complete either a 9-12000 word dissertation plus six research paper units, or a longer dissertation of 17000-20000 words plus four research paper units.
Fees for 2016-7 are £7700 per annum full time, and £3850 per annum part time. Student loans to cover the costs of fees will be available to students under the age of 30, to be repaid concurrently with undergraduate loans.
